I started with the University of Maryland Extension as a Nutrient Management Consultant from 1992 - 1996. I began as the Faculty Extension Assistant for 4-H Youth Development in March 1996. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Entomology and Applied Ecology and from the University of Delaware. My interests in entomology include insect identification, behavior, life cycles, habitats, collecting and preserving, human/insect interactions, and teaching these basic entomology concepts to any audience. I also enjoy many aspects of home horticulture. I enjoy working with all audiences and have taught classes for audiences ages 3-80+ years. I love family, being with my 2 boys, gardening, reading, agriculture, the environment, movies, and teaching.
Kent County 4-H is very strong traditional community club program, home of the oldest continuous 4-H Club in Maryland; Kent Clover 4-H Calf Club which began in 1922. The Kent 4-H program provides a wide variety of in-school educational programs including spring and fall outdoor education, entomology, bird, bat and other environmental science classes. Extension plans, organizes and teaches Outdoor Education farm tours for all Kent County 4th grade students. 4-H also conducts out-of-school time workshops, classes, trainings, service projects, trips, and many other educational opportunities.
Even though Kent is the smallest county in Maryland in both land and population, Kent County 4-H offers a wide variety of programs. However, there are several areas of special focus including environmental science, farm safety (tractor, ATV, etc.), animal science (dairy, dairy judging, livestock quality assurance, swine, showmanship, etc), volunteer development, youth leadership, citizenship, Project Outreach, communication skills and community service.
Kent County 4-H has several general interest community clubs and special interest 4-H clubs in the areas of Shotgun, Rifle, Dairy, Dairy Goat, Dog and Horse.
Kent County 4-H welcomes all youth and adults interested in a quality 4-H educational program.
