Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

Location:

Maryland Cooperative Extension - Allegany County, Cumberland, Maryland

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate non-formal educational programs in the area of 4-H Youth Development through collaboration from a variety of sources, including the Extension Advisory Council.
  • Provide leadership and support for the existing 4-H club program.
  • Recruit, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers, as outlined in the MCE Volunteer Policy.
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and innovative youth development educational program designed to meet the needs of diverse youth ages 5-18 and adult volunteers.
  • Coordinate efforts to improve and expand collaboration among the public and private school systems as well as institutions of higher education to increase opportunities that benefit youth.
  • Develop grant-funded projects to enhance and expand educational programs.
  • Market youth development opportunities and programs via multiple media sources.
  • Supervise administrative assistant.
  • Remain current in assigned subject matter areas and participate in relevant professional improvement opportunities.
  • Utilize a variety of program delivery modes.
  • Provide program delivery support in other Maryland counties and Baltimore City, as requested.
  • Create intellectual activities that are validated by peers and communicated; such as educational materials published and adopted by others, Extension publications, articles in refereed publications, participation in Extension or university research, conference posters, professional presentations, etc.
  • Serve on County/City, regional, college and University committees, non-university committees, leadership on committees, leadership in professional associations, editorships, and special assignments/accomplishments, etc.

Qualifications:

Required –

  • Master’s degree required with major area of study in fields such as education, youth development, family and/or human development or related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities with evidence of being able to work well with youth, volunteers, community leaders, and families.
  • Knowledge and use of computer technology for educational programming and management.
  • Personal transportation and valid driver’s license. Must be willing to travel within the region and state.
  • Flexible working hours; must be available for evening and weekend programs and meetings.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching & communication skills.
  • When offered employment by MCE, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a clear background check by the State of Maryland and FBI.

Preferred –

  • Extension or similar work experience (e.g., work with 4-H Youth Development, teaching, and/or non-formal education). Experience working with volunteers desirable.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with experience working with diverse audiences and all socioeconomic levels.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary will be commensurate with experience, with base salary of $44,000.  The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package.
